Battery life is crucial when you’re working long hours in the field. The Reach RS3 comes with an impressive 18 hours of work as an RTK rover with tilt compensation and 22 hours of data logging. If you need even more power, you can plug in a USB-C power bank to keep it running for days.

The Reach RS2+ is comparable in this regard. It offers 16 hours of work as an RTK rover and also lasts 22 hours when data logging. Like the RS3, it supports USB-C charging, so you can power it with a wall charger or a power bank in the field.

Verdict: Both models deliver excellent battery life, but the RS3 edges out the RS2+ by offering more working hours with tilt compensation. If your projects demand that extra edge in longevity, the RS3 is the better bet.

The Reach RS3 has a built-in LTE modem, which allows it to receive or broadcast corrections through NTRIP. But where it really shines is with its dual-band radio, which supports both LoRa (868/915MHz) and UHF (450MHz). This dual-band capability is a game-changer if you’re working in remote areas without reliable internet coverage. You can still receive corrections between two receivers, making it ideal for rural or hard-to-reach areas.

The Reach RS2+ also has an LTE modem with 4G, 3G, and 2G compatibility, allowing you to access corrections over NTRIP without relying on a smartphone. However, it lacks the dual-band radio, which limits its flexibility when internet connectivity is a challenge.

Verdict: If you often work in areas with poor internet coverage, the RS3 is the better choice with its dual-band radio. The RS2+ is good for urban areas or locations with reliable internet, but the lack of dual-band support is a limitation.

Both the Reach RS3 and Reach RS2+ are built to withstand tough conditions. Each device has a polycarbonate body coated with elastomer, making them rugged, impact-resistant, and ready for the harshest environments. They are both IP67-rated, meaning they’re fully dustproof and waterproof, and can handle extreme temperatures ranging from -20°C to 65°C (-4°F to 149°F).

Verdict: It’s a tie here. Both models are built to last and can perform under extreme weather conditions.

If you prioritize long-range accuracy and don’t need tilt compensation, the Reach RS2+ is still a fantastic option, especially if you’re working with a tighter budget.

While the RS3 outshines the RS2+ in several areas, both are excellent receivers.
